The purpose of this Unit Standard is to enable learners to apply basic health and safety legislation in the form of standards and procedures governing health and safety in the workplace, to ensure that they contribute to a safe, healthy environment for themselves and others.
This unit standard requires of learners the ability to conduct a task analysis as part of a risk assessment process.
This unit standard is directed towards people who are required to work in open holes and deep excavations within the geotechnical industry.
A person credited with this unit standard will be able to understand and implement environmental initiatives during all phases of the construction process.
Learners who are assessed as competent against this unit standard will be able to develop, implement and monitor a Health and Safety site plan, identify specific hazards related to the construction environment and supervise the implementation of steps to limit damage to persons and property.
Learners wishing to acquire the competencies in this standard will be people responsible for the safety and protection of people working at height where there is a risk of injury from a fall. The learner will be responsible for the safety of others performing tasks at height. Qualifying learners are able to develop fall protection plans for people working at height, required by the Occupational Health and safety act (Act 85 of 1993).
A learner accredited with this standard will be able to demonstrate applied competence in occupational health, safety awareness of environmental issues and general housekeeping based on statutory and industry requirements.
AARTO workshops are intended to educate all employees with driver’s licenses about what AARTO is and how it operates. However, they cover much more than just AARTO. Aiming to increase knowledge of a person’s rights and obligations as a driver, they also address other topics pertaining to traffic legislation and driver behavior.
